Is Assigning Everything a "Racial Identity" Harmful to Society? by Michael Ramsey (Opinion)
I know I haven't posted an article in a while. I also know that none of my articles have even been remotely political. As I have gotten older, my perspective on certain issues has changed dramatically. I don't believe I even really cared about political or social issues until 2020 when political turmoil was all over the country. Now before I dive into my take on society's obsession with race, I must give a little background to explain why I may have come to certain conclusions.
First, I am a Christian. I am
not a CINO (or Christian in name only) I am an actual practicing,
bible-believing Christian. Second, I am bi-racial. I know that might seem
counter-productive to even mention my racial identity when this article is
about how assigning everything a racial identity is harmful. However, I do
believe the fact that I am bi-racial (half black, half white) has a lot to do
with my understanding of race, diversity, and racism. Third, I am a
conservative. Yes, I know what you are thinking! Unfortunately, the media has
tainted the world to think that all conservatives look a certain way.
Despite me always holding a more conservative viewpoint, it has been difficult
to voice that I do, in fact, hold a conservative ideology. This has to do with
many Black people calling black conservatives slave terms like "Uncle
Tom" and "Koon." Although I doubt my Black family would
say this about me to my face, I have no doubt, however, that they too have been
conditioned to think this way by mainstream media.
Another thing I would like to
address before taking a huge dive into this topic is why I felt the need to
voice my opinion in this way. Whether or not you agree with this, there is
substantial evidence of conservative voices being silenced. There is also
substantial evidence that the majority of 18-25 year old (I am 16 by the way)
are left-leaning and vote Democrat. Because of this, I believe it is very
important for me to inform others in my generation of a different
perspective.
One of my favorite political
commentators Candace Farmer (AKA Candace Owens) has voiced multiple times a
policy similar to this "If you want to know if something is racist replace
the word "black" for the word "white" and vice-versa. If it
sounds racist the other way, it is racist both ways" (Authors
Paraphrase).
A popular belief among young
people is that it is impossible for racial minorities to be racist. This could
be a result of what is now known as the 1619 project or Critical Race
Theory. If you look at what the supporters of the 1619 project say the
project is it may sound like a good thing. I have a hard time believing that
anyone will deny that this country has some racist history. However, it seems
as if the purpose is to promote racism by making people believe that white
people are racist just by being white. That is a ridiculous sentiment! Anyone
who agrees with that narrative is objectively an idiot (my apologies for not
being politically correct) and complicit in furthering the racial divide that
is present in this country. Although the 1619 project hasn't been implemented
publicly in the school system, the ideology is still very subtly (or not very
subtly) present in society.
"All Lives Matter" a
slogan many conservatives use is believed offensive by the far-left no matter
how true the statement is. Black, Gay, Trans, and Asian lives matter but Do
All Lives Matter to the far left? Well, no matter how the left wants us
to believe they support inclusion and diversity, this is far from the
truth. I will probably get canceled for saying this but... Mass slavery
of Africans would never have happened without the tribal wars going on within
Africa and slavery would never have been abolished if it wasn't for the European
abolitionist. The truth of the matter is the left loves to focus on
whether or not gender is a social construct but neglects the reality of race
actually being a social construct!
The left loves to put on a show
about how progressive they are when it comes to race and yet President Biden
infamously said (authors paraphrase) " You aren't Black if you don't vote
for me." The worst part is the fact that despite the blatant racism of the
Democratic Party, including Woodrow Wilson playing a KKK recruitment video in
the White House, Black people still align themselves with this party and this
ideology. All this to say, that racism seems to just be a buss word to
ignite people during the election cycle. The truth of the matter is that 100
years after you die they will dig you up and not know what your complexion was!
Is it really helpful to focus on something as ridiculous as your skin color?
Does this mean that it shouldn’t
matter if we have more positive representations of minorities in society?
I would never suggest that, and I do recognize that my party needs to do a
better job promoting diversity with race, gender, and age. I am however
suggesting that instead of picking people in acting roles, colleges, and
political representatives based on race. Choose actors who fit the character description,
don't make characters that were White, Black. Instead, make new characters where
people with darker skin feel represented accurately! Don't pick people to
enter your college solely because you have a quota of minorities to meet. Lastly, Stop
voting for people just because they are Black!
