Believe For It - CeCe Winans
Gospel legend, 12 Grammy, 15 Steller, and 23 Dove awards under her belt. Who could I be talking about? The most accomplished female gospel/contemporary gospel artist ever, CeCe Winans!!!
This album actually is amazing. I usually listen to more CCM-style Christian music. This album takes a twist to CeCe's sound with most of the album being covers of popular songs previously recorded by Bethel Music and their collective of artists, Todd Dulaney, David Brymer, Elevation Worship, Fred Hammond, David & Nicole Binion, and MDSN. There are also radio versions of the titular song and Never Lost. She also records again Alabaster Box and Jesus You're Beautiful.
I was honestly not expecting to like this album considering I liked the original versions of all the songs (except for King of Glory CeCe tore that up) with a few I was newly introduced to. This album's purpose seems to bring amazing songs to people who only listen to Gospel music. This definitely succeeded with that. It mixes CCM and Gospel music, so people who have a preference for either would appreciate this album.
The first song "Fire (Live)" is a good song to get you hyped up for the rest of the album. "Never Lost (Live)" is perfect to transition the previous song to the titular song. Now "Believe For It (Live)" is amazing it encourages and tells us to continue to have faith and believe for it (in this case it is referring to miracles). "King of Glory (Live)" is a song she previously recorded with Michael W. Smith, she brings the fire again, and personally I prefer this version over the previous 6 recordings of this song. This next song("Worthy of It All [Live]" was made popular by Bethel Music(at least popular to me) but written by David Brymer. She made me like this song more usually I would just listen to it but it took me to a place.
The first thing I want to say about this next song is, thank you CeCe for recording the absolute best worship song of all time. Yes, I am Talking about "Hunger (Live)" of course I prefer the original ( I mean no one could beat Nicole Binion and the "Can you still be hungry" spontaneous moment). People seriously need this song.
Next is "Just to Be Close to You (Live)" I learned after listening to it that it was a cover of Fred Hammond's song of the same name. She then sings "Shepherd (Live)" Made popular by Bethel Music's Amanda Lindsey Cook*. "Alabaster Box (Live)" and "Jesus You're Beautiful (Live)" are re-recorded versions of her previous songs. "I Have a Savior (Live)" is a beautiful version of Bethel Music's Leeland (which he sang with Gateway Worship) song. "Goodness Of God (Live)" many know the song made popular by Jenn Johnson of Bethel Music.CeCe gives a gospel touch to an already great song.
Before ending her album with the two radio version songs, She sings "No Greater (Live)" a newer song written by her husband Alvin Love. Upbeat and happy to begin and end her album smart move.
*Neither Amanda Lindsey Cook and Leeland are still a part of Bethel Music's Collective
* I recently learned after writing this that this song is a different song with the same title Made popular by Nashville Life.
