Something Has To Break!!!

I will be reviewing all four available versions (well available to purchase). Also for more Context when I originally wrote this, I was not aware Kierra Sheard was married, but since I wrote it a new version was released and she is married so I edited this accordingly. Original Publish date May 3, 2021.

The first version released was the original version with Kierra Sheard-Kelly feat. Tasha Cobbs Leonard. This actually was not the first version  I heard of the song surprisingly enough. The first version I heard was Kierra with her mom, Gospel music legend, Karen Clark-Sheard!  

When I first listened to it, I did not think I would like the other versions. This song though is sooooooo good. The writing team consists of Mia Fieldes of Essential Worship, Jonathan Smith of Red Rocks Worship, Kierra Sheard-Kelley, and J. Drew Sheard II (Kierra's Brother ?). So basically it had some bomb writers. This is according to CCLI her brother's first song (that he wrote). Most people familiar with CCM have heard at least one song written by Jonathan Smith and/or Mia Fieldes. 

Of the songs Kierra has written, I have only heard this one and the one with Todd Delany.   Mia Fieldes and Jonathan Smith are definitely not strangers! They have written many popular songs together let alone the songs they wrote without the other. Some songs they have assisted in penning include Freedom, Fearless, Anticipation (Jesus Culture) Yes I Will (Vertical Worship), Chain Breaker (Zach Williams), and many other unreleased songs. Mia Fieldes has also assisted in penning songs such as Peace Be Still (Hope Darst), Less Like Me (Zach Williams), and Tremble ( Mosaic MSC). Jonathan Smith has assisted in penning House Of The Lord ( Phil Wickham), Glorious Day ( Passion feat. Kristian Stanfill), and Grammy Award-Winning song There Was Jesus (Zach Williams).


The point for all of that is... Lyrically amazing! Vocals? Superb literally every version. I bought all four.

 Homecoming, when I first heard about this album I was thinking " That's an odd name for a worship album."  After listening to at least the first and last song ( and maybe a couple in the middle) the name makes total sense. I was super excited about this album, much more than the last album from Bethel Music titled "Revival's In The Air". Actually, most of the songs from that album are great songs they just took a while for me to realize it.  The first songs I will talk about are the song that you may have heard before. These would be, of course, Son of Suffering, Too Good To Not Believe, Hymn Of Heaven, My King Forever, and All Hail King Jesus.   My King Forever I like the song but I was expecting a spontaneous moment or something; since the song has been recorded by Josh Baldwin multiple times before now.   All Hail King Jesus was ehh. Inhale (Exhale) - MercyMe

 Two songs, that's it only two songs that actually did not make me want to fall asleep. Not trying to be rude or funny but is it sad I just realized that there are usually only 2 songs on a MercyMe album that do not make you tired. Not that is boring it just sounds like something I would use to put my little cousin to sleep.  If you listen to the radio and hear a MercyMe song, it is a good chance those would be the only songs you would like. It wasn't that memorable but it was peaceful so if you need noise to go to sleep this is it. I can't even say more than a paragraph and a half it is just simple. Well... Happy Listening !!! :-)

Feels Like Home Vol 1 & 2 - Israel & New Breed

 Israel Houghton, more popular through his Praise & Worship style albums and his moniker Israel & New Breed. Of course, when the revelation that he fathered 2 children from a lady he wasn't then-wife Meleasa Houghton, Israel lost a lot of fans. I know that was years ago people still should not be talking about it. I am just being real. So this album like his album road to DeMaskUs is a little too Gospely for me. It is different if he was a gospel artist. But he really is Contemporary Gospel and Contemporary Worship than CCM or Gospel.  The covers of his older songs are interesting... I prefer the original but gospel music fans would probably like the new versions. He also sang his version of How Great a song he wrong with multiple members of covenant worship including the Binions.
